Chappell edges Koepka by 1 stroke to win Texas Open

Kevin Chappell made an 8-foot putt on the final hole to win the Valero Texas Open by one stroke on Sunday.

Those conditions have also created a crowded leaderboard.

Chappell has never won on the PGA Tour but has six second-place finishes, including this event in 2011.

"I'm just excited I don't have to answer that question, 'What do I have do to win?' again", Chappell told CBS Sports while holding his daughter immediately following his win. But his par-bogey finish left him to settle for a final-round 69 and a third-place tie with Kevin Tway (69) at nine under.

Round 1 leader Branden Grace bounced back nicely from a 1-over 73 in Round 2 with a 2-under 70 on Saturday.

"That was brutal", Grace said. "You make a putt like that and it can get your momentum going".

Bulls guard Rajon Rondo out indefinitely with broken thumb
Grant is inconsistent, but if good Grant shows up, it's in Chicago's best interest to just play it straight. "We're playing tight. Without him, I'm down to about 50-50. "Whenever you get beat, you're antsy to get back out on the court and play", Stevens said.

Koepka, trailing Chappell by a shot coming up the 18th, took a three-iron out of his bag and considered taking a crack at reaching the 606-yard, par-five hole in two.

"It was tough day", Huh concurred. I'm getting myself going and playing stronger.

But Koepka came up one stroke short as Chappell, in his 180th start on tour, finally found out what it felt like to win. This golf course really gets all of your game.

"I had some great breaks on the first four or five holes on errant tee shots when I was able to get pars out of them", Palmer said.

"I feel like I've made some strides mentally and physically".

"I was really calm all day".

Cameron Smith during the Valero Texas Open. The most recent to do it was Sergio Garcia at the Masters. But the South African rallied Saturday and had a lead until a bogey at No. 15.

Chappell struggled to a two-over start on the front nine, but he managed to salvage the round by birdieing three of four holes from No. 14 to No. 17.
