Sheriff David Clarke no longer under consideration for DHS job

His adviser, Craig Peterson, told the Post that Clarke and Trump met on Tuesday in Wisconsin and discussed other ways Clarke could support the president, and that the sheriff is now "reviewing options inside and outside of government".

Clarke, a tough-on-crime conservative Democrat, announced last month that he was taking a job as assistant secretary in DHS's Office of Public Engagement.

Clarke announced on May 17th that he would resign in June so he could accept a position in President Donald Trump's administration.

John Avildsen, Oscar-winning director of 'Rocky,' dead at 81
The three Oscar nominations for " Save the Tiger " and the win for Lemmon secured Avildsen's place on the list of go-to directors. Avildsen's other films included the critically hailed drama-thriller " Joe " (1970), starring Susan Sarandon and Peter Boyle.

Clarke faced significant pushback over his reported position, which intensified after CNN's KFile team found out that he plagiarized 47 parts of his 2013 master's thesis with the Naval Postgraduate School.

Sheriff Clarke, who once claimed that the Islamic State and Black Lives Matter activists were forming an alliance to destroy America, notified John F. Kelly, the homeland security secretary, of his decision on Friday, according to an adviser. According to Peterson's statement, Clarke said he "is 100 percent committed" to Trump's success and that he "believes his skills could be better utilized to promote the President's agenda in a more aggressive role".

DHS never actually acknowledged the appointment, but the paper says Clarke was supposed to start the new position at the end of the month - until unspecified "delays" got in the way.
