White House denies Trump wants Mueller out, but heat's on

After news broke of the possibly President Trump may fire special counsel to Robert Mueller, the White House is pushing back on those claims. He too said Mueller should be left to conduct his investigation independently.

Rosenstein is charged with Mueller's fate because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from all matters having to do with the Trump-Russia investigation.

"If President fired Bob Mueller, Congress would immediately re-establish independent counsel and appoint Bob Mueller", Schiff said in a tweet. If Rosenstein refused, Trump could fire him and continue down the line until a DOJ official acquiesced.

Ruddy had been at the White House the same day, though White House press secretary Sean Spicer said he did not meet with the president.

As expectations mounted about the upcoming open hearing of attorney general Jeff Sessions on Capitol Hill, a friend of the president added a new twist to the Russian Federation controversy by suggesting Donald Trump might be considering dismissing the special counsel investigating it.

Ruddy first made the bombshell assertion that Trump was considering dismissing Mueller to PBS' Jody Woodruff on "PBS Newshour" Monday night.

Rosenstein handed the reigns of the investigation over to Mueller last month not long after Trump abruptly fired FBI director James Comey, cutting short his 10-year term. A person close to Trump's legal team added that they there have been no discussions about firing Mueller. If he snaps, and his intentions take another, tumultuous turn, there are few guardrails preventing him from removing the special counsel-a move that would nearly certainly trigger a constitutional crisis.

The Trump confidant told TheDC that this wording from Ruddy is clearly an attempt to convince the president that firing Mueller would be a poor decision.

"While the president has the right to, he has no intention to do so", Sanders told reporters aboard Air Force One when asked if Trump was considering firing Mueller.

Multiple House Republicans said that there was no discussion about the special counsel at the weekly GOP meeting.

Rep. Mark Walker said Mueller is broadly respected by both Republicans and Democrats, although he noted that the respect isn't set in stone. The next day, Comey says Trump summoned him to dinner to ask for his loyalty.

"In this kind of environment, I don't give the benefit of the doubt to somebody who can only hire Democrats, but claims that we ought to trust him", Gingrich said. Gingrich, author of a new book called "Understanding Trump", added in an interview: "I think Congress should now intervene and they should abolish the independent counsel". Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who was put in charge of the Russian Federation probe after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself, made the announcement May 18.

Chris Ruddy, a Trump friend and the CEO of the conservative website Newsmax, raised the possibility of the president considering terminating Mueller, a potentially explosive option. "If there were not good cause, it would not matter to me what anybody said", he said.
