Venus Williams Sued After Killing A Man In Car Accident

The lawsuit accuses Williams of running a red light, inattentive driving and negligent operation of a vehicle.

"I am broken, I am heart broken by this accident", -she wrote on his page Facebook for its first public statement about this accident.

The reporters gave Williams about a minute to collect herself, before she made a decision to end the press conference early.

At that point she began to cry and after an awkward silence left the room, before returning shortly afterwards, with the moderator suggesting subsequent questions focused on tennis.

A police report says that Venus Williams is responsible for a auto accident earlier this month in Florida, which caused injuries to a 78-year-old man who later died.

No charges have been filed against Williams by the Palm Beach Garden Police. "I don't have any information that indicates she is not playing Wimbledon", he had said.

Venus Williams, the older sister of tennis star Serena Williams, has won seven Grand Slam titles, including five at her favourite tournament, Wimbledon.

The police report says Williams was driving around 8km/h when the crash occurred, and there's no evidence that alcohol, drugs or texting caused the crash.

Williams was talking to the media after coming through a tricky first-round match against Belgian Elise Mertens where she emerged with a 7-6 (7) 6-4 victory.

"Ms. Williams entered the intersection on a green light".

Barson's passenger, identified in the report as Jerome Barson, 78, was taken to a Florida trauma center.

The American was asked about a vehicle crash in which she collided with another auto, being driven by Linda Barson. Williams, in tears, told reporters before her voice trailed off.

"Cunningham on Thursday and Friday told Reuters that Williams, "expresses her deepest condolences" to the Barson family, but offered no comment on the lawsuit".
