Thousands of acres burn in Los Angeles-area fire

A wildfire burning through mountains just north of downtown Los Angeles is the largest ever within city limits, according to the city's mayor, Eric Garcetti.

Fire officials will be flying over the area at 6 a.m.to get a better assessment of what has burned.

A brush fire in Sun Valley is threatening homes and has forced a complete closure of the 210 Freeway in the area as firefighters work to contain the blaze.

Firefighters said erratic fire behavior caused by strong, gusting winds made it hard to predict what areas may be at risk.

Local gas price skyrockets nearly 30 cents per litre before long weekend
It could always be worse, however - McTeague said prices rose in Ontario and Quebec by 20 cents a litre across the board. McTeague said how much the price actually jumped up works out to be closer to nine cents, but the message is the same.

"Due to erratic fire behavior, driven by strong, gusting winds, we are not able to give a firm prediction on all areas potentially at risk", the department said.

Both Terrazas and Garcetti said the fire, dubbed La Tuna, is the largest in the city's history in terms of acreage. The weather forecasts continue to expect temperatures across the State for the next seven days, it should complicate the task of the soldiers of the fire.

The blaze is one of many wildfires across the U.S. West, including fires in and around California's Yosemite National Park that have closed a popular road into the park prompted evacuations of nearby towns.

No injuries or structural damage were reported.

Richardson was the fourth overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft and made an immediate impact with the Jets. The Seahawks were tied for third in the National Football League in sacks last season with 42.

The Castaic Fire is up to 25 acres and forward progression has stopped, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire had blackened 5,000 acres by 10 a.m. PT Saturday and was moving toward Burbank, where much of southern California's entertainment industry is situated.

"Be set, have your vehicle positioned appropriately, have your pets, your documents, your pictures - all the things you want to protect - loaded up in your auto", Terrazas said. Police expect mandatory evacuation orders to remain in place into Sunday afternoon. At the following day, the flames expanded to all directions, leaving people without the possibility of returning to their houses - some of them haven't done it yet.

Much of California was under an extreme heat warning through the weekend with temperatures hitting nearly triple digits in some places, according to the National Weather Service.

Garcetti signed a declaration of emergency that directs relevant departments in the City of Los Angeles to take all necessary steps to protect life and property in the area affected by the fire.
