Trump unlikely to nominate Cohn as Fed chair

Trump's decision for Fed chair may come down to whether he would rather retain Yellen, despite her defense of banking regulation after the economic crisis, or choose someone new who may agree with him on the need for banking deregulation but also look for quicker interest-rate hikes.

President Donald Trump may choose not to nominate Gary Cohn as Federal Reserve chairman over comments he made about the Charlottesville riots, sources told The Wall Street Journal.

Cohn remains "focused on his responsibilities ... including a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to deliver meaningful tax reform that creates jobs and grows the economy, '"a White House spokesperson said". Another administration official said Mr Trump was "considering several candidates" for the Fed.

Trump has said he would consider reappointing Yellen, who was nominated to lead the Fed by his Democratic predecessor, former President Barack Obama.

But the critique to the FT caught Trump off guard, the Journal reported - and he now "visibly bristles" at the mention of Cohn.

In the almost two weeks since Cohn said "the administration can and must do better in consistently and unequivocally condemning" hate groups, Trump has stewed over the comments.

Modi says India shares Myanmar's concern over 'extremist violence'
He said, PM Modi will also pay a visit to the Aung San Museum which was the General's residence for a long period of time. Modi will also hold wide-ranging talks with Myanmar's State Counsellor and de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Wednesday.

"He's not getting it. Trump wants to fire him", said one source with close ties to the White House who spoke on condition of anonymity. But the President did not single Mr Cohn out for praise during a tax reform roll-out speech last week in Missouri, sparking speculation that their relationship had cooled.

Cohn's criticism caught Trump by surprise and left the president seething with anger, according to a person familiar with the president's reaction.

But he later admitted to the Financial Times that he was deeply troubled by Trump's remarks.
