Sources in the counter-insurgency cell said ground reports suggested that the militants were planning "a spectacular attack on the Srinagar-Jammu highway near Pampore and a government building at Lal Chowk in Srinagar".

All three militants who had launched a suicide attack on a BSF camp outside the global airport here on Tuesday dawn have been killed, the Border Security Force said.

The militants are holed-up inside the building campus of the 182nd Battalion camp, officers said.

However, IGP Kashmir Munir Khan said security forces were looking for six to seven terrorists."We need to neutralise them very fast", he added.

Officials said the airport, which is on a plateau and encircled by military and paramilitary camps, was safe.
